Political parties have five roles. To nominate candidates, create balance, inform citizens, unite government, and to influence the policy. In order to nominate the candidates political parties are responsible for selecting candidates who will run for political office. The candidates represent the parties members and help spread the parties message during elections. To create balance the political parties have a majority and a minority. The majority party usually gets many laws passed, but sometimes has to compromise with the minority party. This way the opposing party has a way of protecting its own interests. Political parties also include the senators and the house of representatives. The senator and representatives often work together as a group to create and pass laws that support their parties platform. People in the same political party are connected because they are members of the same organization, which is called unite government. Political parties run campaigns for candidates through out the media.
